Inaugurando esta nueva sección de Mis libros favoritos, os muestro el libro del World Press Photo, en el que nos encontramos con una selección de la mejor fotografía de prensa del año 2007, presentada en el prestigioso concurso internacional World Press Photo. Un recorrido por los acontecimientos más destacados de 2007. Impresionantes fotografías galardonadas según una categoría temática como personajes, noticias, arte y entretenimiento, retratos y naturaleza, entre otros.
Cada año, World Press Photo invita a los fotógrafos de prensa del mundo a participar en el concurso World Press Photo, el certamen anual más importante y prestigioso de fotoperiodismo mundial. Todas las fotografías fueron juzgadas en febrero de 2008, en Ámsterdam, por un jurado internacional independiente compuesto por trece reconocidos profesionales del mundo de la fotografía de prensa.
En la portada del libro aparece la fotografía ganadora del World Press Photo 2007, obra de Tim Hetherington: un soldado del segundo pelotón de la Compañía Battle, perteneciente al segundo batallón del regimiento de infantería 503 de Estados Unidos, se desploma sobre el muro de contención del búnker Restrepo en el valle Korengal, Afganistán, el 16 de septiembre, a última hora del día.

Mi opinión del libro:
Me encuentro ante un libro que impresiona nada más verlo, debido a la fotografía de portada, directa y cruda, como la guerra que representa en la imagen, la de un soldado sufriendo por la situación en la que se encuentra inmerso y de la que es dificil escapar.
El libro está encuadernado en tapa blanda de 300 gr., y páginas interiores en papel suavemente satinado de 150 gr., impreso en Alemania y con una calidad de impresión como corresponde a un libro de fotografía.
El diseño es limpio y elegante, alternando páginas con fondo negro y con fondo blanco, con un tamaño adecuado para la mayoría de fotografías y textos explicativos de las fotografías que nos muestra. Al final del libro hay un listado de los fotógrafos participantes en el certamen, 5019 fotógrafos de 125 paises que enviaron 80536 fotografías para el concurso. Realmente una tarea ingente la de selección y valoración.
Está estructurado según la temática del concurso: Personajes de actualidad, Noticias de actualidad, Temas de actualidad, Temas contemporáneos, Vida cotidiana, Retratos, Arte y entretenimiento, Naturaleza, Reportajes de deportes y fotografías de acción y deportes. Una gran variedad de temas que aglutinan la esencia del fotoperiodismo.
Este libro merece ser coleccionado en todas sus ediciones anuales, para comprender la evolución de la fotografía de prensa a través de los años, y para que sirva de crónica gráfica del mundo en el que vivimos.
Realmente es un libro imprescindible para todo fotógrafo que se precie de serlo.
Inaugurating this new section of my favorite books, you show the Book of World Press Photo, which we have a selection of the best press photography from the year 2007, presented at the prestigious international World Press Photo contest. A tour of the highlights of 2007. Impressive award-winning photographs as a category such as characters, news, entertainment and art, nature and portraits, among others.
Each year, World Press Photo invites press photographers in the world to participate in the World Press Photo contest, the most important annual event and prestigious photojournalism world. All photographs were tried in February 2008, in Amsterdam for an independent international jury composed of thirteen recognized professionals in the world of photography press.

My opinion of the book:
I stand before a book is impressive to see him any more because of the cover photo, direct and stark, as the war that represents the image of a soldier suffering from the situation in which it is immersed and of which is difficult to escape.
The book is bound in soft cover 300 gr., And inside pages of glossy paper gently 150 gr., Printed in Germany and with a print quality as befits a book of photography. The design is clean and elegant, alternating pages with a black background with white background, with a size suitable for most photographs and explanatory texts of the photographs shows.
At the end of the book is a listing of the photographers participating in the contest, 5019 photographers from 125 countries that sent 80,536 photos for the contest. A truly daunting task of selection and assessment. It is structured as the theme of the contest: Characters from now, News, Hot Topics, Contemporary Issues, Daily Life, Portraits, Arts and Entertainment, Nature, news articles and photographs of sports and action sports. A wide variety of topics that bind the essence of photojournalism.
This book deserves to be collected in all its annual editions, to understand the evolution of photography from the press over the years, and to serve as a chronicle of the graphics world in which we live.
It really is an essential book for any photographer who prides itself on being so.
