Un libro en el que encontramos explicaciones claras que se ilustran con múltiples diagramas y fotografías especialmente escogidas. Una guía de consulta cómoda que abarca todos los aspectos que contribuyen a obtener fotografías bien iluminadas. Información adicional de interés como direcciones de las páginas de Internet recomendables o glosario de términos técnicos que aparecen a lo largo del libro.Laura Gilpin, una fotógrafa de paisaje estadounidense, afirma, en una de las citas incluidas en el libro: "La luz es nuestro pincel, una herramienta muy útil en manos de quien la estudia con suficiente cuidado". En este libro se analizan todos los aspectos que es necesario conocer para controlar la iluminación en el momento de hacer la fotografía.
Se divide en seis apartados que avanzan desde los aspectos teóricos más básicos, como la teoría del color, hasta los más avanzados, como el uso de la luz para realzar un retrato, de manera que pueda ser útil para fotógrafos de todos los niveles. Las explicaciones de los conceptos técnicos son sencillas y fácilmente accesibles, y se acompañan de numerosos ejemplos, ya sea con fotografías o ilustraciones, que muestran gráficamente lo que el texto expone.

El Autor:
David Präkel, originario del norte de Inglaterra, obtuvo su primera cámara a los nueve años. Desde entonces, la fotografía ha desempeñado un papel clave en su vida. Ha llevado a cabo una variada carrera profesional como periodista, editor de prensa, asesor editorial, aficionado a la música y, últimamente, profesor. En la década de los noventa, pasó un año en los Estados Unidos dando clases de fotografía en cursos nocturnos y en programas educativos para jóvenes. A su regreso al Reino Unido, dio clases de fotografía en escuelas y universidades, así como en el Kodak Imaging Training Centre. Actualmente dirige unos talleres de fotografía en Northumberland es profesor del curso BA Hons Photography y del Cumbria Institute of the Arts.
Mi opinión del libro:
Este libro sobre iluminación, está estructurado en torno a seis apartados: ¿Qué es la luz?, en el que nos muestra conceptos básicos de la luz, teoría y explicaciones acerca del fenómeno lumínico. Luz natural, en el que nos explica los tipos de luz natural que nos encontramos y cómo enfrentarnos a ella a la hora de fotografiar. Luz disponible, donde se habla sobre la luz artificial, los tipos y la forma de manejarla. Luz fotográfica, aqui encontreremos explicaciones acerca de la luz que se utiliza en fotografía, luz contínua y de flash, y la forma de utilizarla. Control de la luz, es éste quizás el apartado más importante del libro, en el que aprenderemos a domar y manejar la luz a nuestro antojo para poder afrontar cualquier tipo de fotografía. Utilización de la luz, ¿Qué hacemos con la luz?, la luz nos ayuda a fotografiar y a describir el sujeto fotografiado, en este apartado utilizamos la luz como forma de expresión fotográfica.
Es éste un libro completamente actualizado, completamente a color, plagado de esquemas e ilustraciones que nos adentran en el complejo mundo del control de la luz, que resulta mucho más fácil de utilizar tras la lectura y comprensión de éste libro.
Tiene un formato muy cómodo de manejar, y las referencias al actual mundo de la fotografía digital son contínuas, no quedándonos con la sensación, como en otros casos, de que hemos adquirido un libro anticuado.

The explanations of technical concepts are simple and easily accessible, and are accompanied by numerous examples, either with photographs or illustrations, which show graphically what the text explains.

The Author:
Präkel David, a native of northern England, got his first camera at the age of nine. Since then, photography has played a key role in his life. Has carried out a varied career as a journalist, publisher, editorial advisor, fond of music and, lately, professor. In the nineties, he spent a year in the United States giving photography classes at night courses and educational programs for youth. On his return to the UK, took photography classes in schools and universities, as well as in the Kodak Imaging Training Center. Currently manages about photography workshops in Northumberland is a professor of the course BA Hons Photography and the Cumbria Institute of the Arts.
My opinion of the book:
This book on lighting, is structured around six sections: What is light?, Which shows us the basics of light, theory and explanations about the phenomenon light. Natural light, which we esplica types of natural light where we are and how to deal with it when photographed. Available light, where he spoke about the artificial light, the types and how to handle it. Photographic light, here you'll find explanations about the light that is used in photography, continuous light and flash, and how to use it. Control of light, it is perhaps the most important paragraph of the book, in which we learn to tame and handle the light we wanted to be able to face any kind of photography.
